a whirlwind of a summer

August already? I'm not sure where I've been for the past 3 months. I have sketchy memories of fun trips, lots of kids, lots of family, and lots of laughter...and always on the go! But it's been wonderful. In the midst of the craziness, I was able to work on 3 different portrait projects. There are some great shots I need to share with you, and I hope to have those up in the next week or so. Keep watching! And be patient with my slowness in updating. I'm still here. :)

1-year portraits

We took these 1-year portraits on a Sunday afternoon in the park.

The first senior portraits I did were a blast! We shot the photos in several different locations, one of which was the well-known Cadillac Ranch. The best thing about this kind of senior portraits is that they're 100% personal. You pick the place. You pick the style. The final product tends to be much more individual and original than your typical senior pictures. Looking back at my senior pictures, I wish I could have had a more individual experience that fit my personality.

When parents have their first child, they take every possible picture at every possible milestone. It's such a wondrous time! And babies are such good subjects for a photo. However, as kids get older and life gets busier, we take up our cameras less and less. Although your child gets their pictures made at school each year, try something different this year for the portraits that you give to family and friends. A unique portrait will be a welcome addition to the ordinary school portrait lineup.

If you're looking for a new way to have portraits made as a gift or for your home, a photo collage is a great alternative. To get the images, I have the normal photo shoot with you, and then I can compile a collage with your specifications. Several different formats work well. This one in particular was made to fit in an 8"x10" frame and the pictures are similar sizes. Another collage I've done highlights one main photo with three other smaller photos beside the large one. So, you get multiple portraits all in one place. Another plus: you only need one frame!

family portraits

In downtown Rogers, Arkansas, I took family portraits for my brother, sister-in-law, niece, and nephew. It was the middle of May, so everything was green and blooming. We had a blast searching for places downtown and trying different things. This is one of my favorite shots from that photo shoot. I'll include more from these portraits later on.

Travel

The pubs of Ireland, the coast of Australia, the rainforest of Guyana...these are the places that are calling me back to them. This afternoon I stumbled on a website that makes me want to travel. Today. I don't think my passport has expired yet...and there are so many places I have yet to visit. The website is www.worldatlas.com, and it lists each continent and its countries, travel info, history info, maps, flags, etc. It took me back to the places across the world that I've been blessed enough to visit. Some of my favorite pictures were taken in foreign countries. At these times, I traveled with a film camera and more film than I care to admit. I had film stuffed in every extra pocket on every piece of luggage I traveled with. Multiple times I purchased more film on the go in the country I was currently visiting. And it was completely worth it. When I was preparing for my first overseas trip, my mom asked me to bring her back pictures that I'd taken. She didn't want any trinkets or cultural gifts from Ireland--just my pictures. So I returned with LOTS of pictures. We sat down and looked through all of them, which took some time. And at the end she said, "I thought you took too many pictures. But I want more." That's how I justify my excessive picture taking--I come by it honestly. Since I have quite a store of them, I'll be sharing some travel pictures soon!

There are some picture moments that just happen without any work on the photographer's part, other than possessing a camera. This photo was the product of needing a break from the car (and a diaper change) on the trip home from Dee Dee's.
